The other day our friend/neighbor/hairdresser came over and gave the girls their first haircuts. It actually went far better than I expected. Check out the pictures:

Spring Break = Project Time

March 25, 2013 · filed under: Kids, Madelyn Estelle, Projects by Geoff

It seems spring break at our house always means project time. With extra time off, the Janes crew manages to find something to keep us busy each year: fireplaces, bathroom remodels, landscape planning…the list goes on. This year’s project: major work on the castle bed.

Though we have been plugging along on the bed for over a month now, it was time to get down to business. With grandparents and an offer to help paint on the way for a weekend visit, Geoff took two days off so we could forge ahead with the castle. Jill’s motivation = her OCD for unfinished projects. Geoff’s motivation = the fact that he very much dislikes to paint. And motivated we were! With no progress on the project since our last post, we worked hard in the last four days to finish a third tower and entryway, archways to a balcony, the front of the castle and windows, and the balcony railing, as well as paint the majority of the structure. The hard work was met with happiness by two little princesses!

A Castle in the Making

March 11, 2013 · filed under: Kids, Madelyn Estelle, Projects by Jill

Our prior post was titled “Madelyn’s Bed.” As the photos showed, the progress we had made had created just that: a really large bunk bed frame. In the last week, that bunk bed has begun to transform into a little girl’s dream: a castle! At this point, two towers are in place, complete with windows to peek through and built in cubbies and shelves. Along the way, we got Madelyn’s new mattress, took down her crib, and officially moved her into the big bed, work in progress that it is. We both smiled when we heard our big girl happily reading aloud to herself while sitting on her bed the afternoon we set it up. More photos are to come, but here is a taste of the castle for now:
