While watching the Olympic games this year, it seems we have been inspired to mold our own little Olympian. Unsure whether Grace will prefer summer or winter games events, we feel obligated to expose her equally to the events from each.

With Monday and Wednesday night swimming lessons this month, Grace is on her way to becoming quite a little fish. Like all good fish, she does not seem to enjoy floating on her back as illustrated in the pictures, but she is a pro at floating on her tummy. Although she still isn’t too sure about dunking her head underwater, she does enjoy the singing and games that she gets to play with Daddy and the other swimmers. Look for Grace E. Janes to compete in any event but backstroke at the 2028 games!

The dreaded dunk!

In hopes of a double Olympian (parents can dream, right?) Grace and Daddy took to the snow this afternoon for Grace’s first downhill experience. With a little more “training” needed before she is ready for stand-up events like skiing, they decided that her first try should be more like the luge or bobsled. Sled in hand, the two of them conquered the small slope in the backyard–and even convinced Mommy to team up with Grace for one run. Look-out winter games 2030!

It’s been a crazy couple of weeks and we’ve got all kinds of stuff to share, but no time to get it up and share it.  So, here’s a few videos as a teaser of all the things we’ve been up to.  We’ll try to get another post with pictures and videos of Grace’s enormous steps:

• We’re everywhere now.  We’ve become a very talented crawler.
• Nothing is safe.  Now that we pull ourself up on anything and everything, Dad & Mom have to keep a close eye out to make sure she’s not getting into things she shouldn’t be (which she does often), or that she doesn’t pull something over on top of herself (she’s already done that once).
• Stairs are a new toy and also require a close eye.  See the last video below.
• We’re now beginning to walk around furniture, and enjoy walking with Mom & Dad.  It won’t be too long now and she’ll be running around.
• Our little swimmer.  Grace has now attended her 3rd swim practice, and has been enjoying everything except back-floating and dunking.

Grace is officially 9 months old. According to the doctor, she is off the growth charts in length at her 30 inches, right on track in weight for the average 9 month old, and carrying a head that is a little on the small size in circumference for her age. We think she’ll make that up when her hair gets thicker. : ) She crawls everywhere she wants to go, terrorizing Simon in the process, and she pulls herself up to stand at a new spot almost every day. She has begun to leave baby food behind in favor of sharing Mommy and Daddy’s meal favorites, and she has started taking her bottles in sippy-cup form.

With all of this growing, we decided it is time for another photo shoot of our big girl. Here are the latest and greatest!

Of course, taking photos with a mobile child is not nearly as easy as it was with one who sits still. Enjoy an inside look at the photo shoot!
